The Pendulum Legacy of the Celtic Brooch edition by Tarah Scott Romance eBooks

I have read several books by this author and loved every one. I enjoyed this book but would have liked for it to go further. it ended nicely, but it seemed to end rather quickly I would like for it to stop rather abruptly I love Tarah's writing, and I see her writing in more depth and detail. I recommend this book as a great, quick read. Loved the characters and would to have gotten to know them better... but perhaps there is a follow up planned.

The Pendulum Legacy of the Celtic Brooch edition by Tarah Scott Romance eBooks Reviews

This was a short story set in the Scottish Highlands in the late thirteen hundreds, written by an American author. Therein lay the problem - lack of research.

We have two men after one girl, Airin. The one who finds the brooch that belonged to her great-grandmother will have her hand in marriage. One of the men, Jason, is her late sister's husband, the other is Deryll, the handsome, manly, dashing and infamous Scarlet Knight. It seems a simple and indisputable way to find a husband. Things get somewhat messy when murder, unscrupulous sheriffs, soppy puppy-eyed minstrels and good old-fashioned skulduggery get in the way. Who will find the brooch, who will win the virgin, Airin's, hand and ..... is it really great-grandmamma's brooch?

The story is well structured and well balanced - it's neat and tidy, no loose ends are dangling at the end. Deryll is attractive in a little-bit-of-a-naughty-chap sort of way. Airin is a spunky maiden and even in the 1300s women didn't like to be pushed around, it seems!

So, so far so good.

What I didn't like was that the author tried to add a little dashing derring-do flavour by using some Olde English words and phrases - but only a few and were therefore a little incongruous. The dialogue was neither one thing or another. There was rather an incessant and rather irritating use of 'gaze'. Not one character looked or saw - the gaze shifted or dropped or sharpened (sharpened??). This was rather tedious.

There were a number of editorial oversights and the author might like to know that 'bullocks' are young steer. If you want to use the British slang for the man's 'crown jewels' the word you need is 'bollocks'.

The story needs more than a lick and a promise - it needs a good dust and polish.
I happen to love knights and castles...and The Pendulum does not disappoint! The story is so very well written. The reader is transported back in time and witnesses murder, deceit, romance, and love. The turn of events is rapid, but it unfolds at just the right pace. Lady Airin is a fun character, highly opinionated and not afraid to stand up for what she believes (even if she can't prove it). You are unsure of who is committing the crimes up to the very end (everyone is a suspect). Brilliant!

I really enjoyed this book and I can hardly wait for book II.
The Pendulum is a fantastic story by Tarah Scott. What I really enjoyed about this novel is the plot and storytelling, and the first thing I noticed was Tarah's excellent use of Old English. This story is set in Scotland around the late 1300s, and speaking in Old English was the norm. As an avid historical novel reader, I could tell that Tarah did the research to make sure every detail - from language to scenery - was historically accurate to the time period. But the great part is that you don't have to be familiar with Old English to enjoy this story. Tarah expertly weaves historically accurate details in a way that's very easy to read. This is a major reason why The Pendulum is such a rich story.

I also loved the series of murders that are happening around Lady Airin. This addition of suspense and intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who is behind these murders. Tarah delivers this story in a way that will shock you when you find out who is behind this madness. Overall, I loved The Pendulum. The pacing is perfect, the story is rich and thrilling, the characters compliment each other, and Lady Airin truly shines in this novel.

The whole thing was confusing due to lack of character development and dialogue that was not consistent. Good thing it was short and free.
I am not much for supernatural but I did very much enjoy this - very emotional if you let yourself believe -
It felt like the author rushed out this book and left a lot of things I would have liked to heard about. Some areas were very confusing in the story and left the hero bereft on his character and his history with the heroine, which makes the story lack some chemistry. I 've read and enjoyed other stories by this author, this one does not do her justice.
This is not the best Scott story but I read to the end. Air in jumped to many conclusions. Darryl overlooked her tendency toward drama. There was much killing and hot intimacy. And there was some madness. This was interesting.
